BFDI: Branches is an all-new platformer game with Firey, Leafy, Coiny, and Pin! Featuring multiple characters with varied gameplay, a story mode with branching paths, a complete level editor, and an online level browser!

BFDI: Branches is a side-scrolling platformer game developed by Team Branches as a fan game of the Battle For Dream Island series. The demo released for computers on June 22nd, 2024, and the full game's date is to be announced. The demo features Firey, Leafy, Coiny, and Pin as playable characters, with a Story mode with four levels, Create mode level editor, and an Online Levels browser.

The game was first revealed as an unannounced project in director mationsBOMB's YouTube video Making My Own BFDI Game on August 26th, 2023. The game was officially announced with a trailer at Texas Object Hangout 2023's film festival on November 18th, 2023, with director Meester Tweester in attendance. Although the demo was announced for that winter, it was later delayed as announced in an update post on March 12th, 2024. The game was announced for June 2024 in a post on June 3rd, 2024, then on June 8th, 2024 the release date was announced in a post for June 22nd, 2024.

Plot

As shown in the Opening, Announcer flung the Mythical Goiky Cake while fighting Penta, who wants to put together the scattered pieces of the cake to obtain unlimited power. Announcer sets Firey, Leafy, Coiny, and Pin with the task of getting the scattered pieces of the Goiky Cake before Penta does, to prevent him from getting unlimited power.

Characters

Playable characters

  • Firey - Labeled "The Good Runner," Firey is the fastest character in terms of running, but has no attack abilities. He has average HP, at 4.
  • Leafy - Labeled "Master of the Skies," Leafy's ability is to jump high and glide through the air instead of double jumping. She has the least HP, at 3.
  • Coiny - Labeled "The All-Rounder," Coiny's ability is rolling like a wheel, which can defeat enemies. He is the all-rounder of the team, with average running speed and jump height. He also has average HP, at 4.
  • Pin - Labeled "The Strong Point," Pin can stab enemies with her point and has the most HP, at 5. However, she has the slowest run speed out and the lowest jump height out of all the playable characters.

Non-playable characters

  • Penta - Pentagon Speaker Box is the main villain of the game. His goal is to re-assemble the Mythical Goiky Cake to obtain unlimited power, and the playable characters must assemble the Goiky Cake before Penta does first. He is a large, red robot with a pentagon-shaped head, and described by the Announcer as the most ruthless, selfish Speaker Box of them all.
  • Announcer - Announcer is a dark gray rectangular Speaker Box that prevents Penta from taking the Mythical Goiky Cake in the game's opening. He tasks the playable characters in assembling the Mythical Goiky Cake before Penta does, which they agree to.
  • Professor Speaker Box - A yellow Speaker Box wearing a graduation cap and square glasses. He instructs the player of the game's controls and mechanics in the Tutorial as the first NPC in gameplay, and speaks in a formal and instructional manner.
  • Gelatin - Gelatin runs Gelatin's Shop in the Profile menu, selling profile icons to the player in exchange for Branch Coins.

The demo's Story mode has a tutorial for all four characters and four levels, which will be used for World 1 in the full game. More Story mode levels are planned for the full game.
