Characters
Characters in BFDI: Branches are the sentient individuals of the game, excluding enemies. Some characters are playable in levels, while some can be placed as NPCs. Others characters aren't present in levels, but are instead outside of them in cutscenes or menus.
Playable characters
Firey
Labeled "The Good Runner," Firey is the fastest character in terms of running, but has no attack abilities. He has average HP, at 4.
Leafy
Labeled "Master of the Skies," Leafy's ability is to jump high and glide through the air instead of double jumping. She has the least HP, at 3.
Coiny
Labeled "The All-Rounder," Coiny's ability is rolling like a wheel, which can defeat enemies. He is the all-rounder of the team, with average running speed and jump height. He also has average HP, at 4.
Pin
Labeled "The Strong Point," Pin can stab enemies with her point and has the most HP, at 5. However, she has the slowest run speed out and the lowest jump height out of all the playable characters.
Non-player characters
Non-player characters (NPCs) are placed in levels with the option to enter text to appear in a box above them when the player is near.
Professor Speaker Box
Professor Speaker Box was the only place-able NPC in the demo's launch on June 22nd, 2024. He is a yellow Speaker Box wearing a graduation cap and square glasses. He instructs the player of the game's controls and mechanics in the Tutorial as the first NPC in gameplay, and speaks in a formal and instructional manner.
Flower
Flower was added as an NPC in v0.1.2 on June 27th, 2024.
Bubble
Bubble was added as an NPC in v0.1.2 on June 27th, 2024.
Other characters
Penta
Penta, or Pentagon Speaker Box, is the main villain of the game. His goal is to re-assemble the Mythical Goiky Cake to obtain unlimited power, and the playable characters must assemble the Goiky Cake before Penta does first. He is a large, red robot with a pentagon-shaped head, and described by the Announcer as the most ruthless, selfish Speaker Box of them all.
Announcer
Announcer is a dark gray rectangular Speaker Box that prevents Penta from taking the Mythical Goiky Cake in the game's opening. He tasks the playable characters in assembling the Mythical Goiky Cake before Penta does, which they agree to.
Gelatin
Gelatin runs Gelatin's Shop in the Profile menu, selling profile icons to the player in exchange for Branch Coins.
