A character's Health Points (HP) are the amount of hits they can take before dying. The number of HP is displayed in the top level of the screen in the HP Meter, represented by a number and segments in the meter.
Maximum Health Points
Characters have differing amounts of maximum Health Points, with Leafy having the lowest at 3, and Pin having the most at 5:

Health gain
Cakes can heal 1 HP, and Full Cakes can replenish characters to maximum HP.
Damage
Most enemies and hazards damage 1 HP, while enemies and hazards affected by the Biggify element will deal double damage. However, bottomless pits, Death Spikes, and Death Gears will instantly deplete all HP, killing the player.
