Cake
Cake in BFDI: Branches is one of the elements that occupy the space of level grid, from Items Tab. Cakes are items which heal the player by increasing the number of their HP. They are often scattered across levels for the purpose of allowing the player to occasionally heal themselves after being damaged by enemies or hazards. The most common variation is a single Cake slice, which heals the player 1 HP. Cakes can move on Tracks, just like Platforms do.
There is also a second variation of Cake, the Full Cake. Instead of healing 1 HP, it fully replenishes the player to maximum HP.
The Mythical Goiky Cake is not an item, but a cake variant which is said to grant unlimited power. The plot of the game revolved around the main characters trying to collect the scattered pieces of the Mythical Goiky Cake before the main antagonist, Penta.

Origin
Cakes are a common food item in Battle For Dream Island, which are often granted at Cake at Stake ceremonies to players safe from elimination. As a common gag, the "cake" handed out at Cake at Stake ceremonies aren't actually cakes, but are still called cake.
Although a separate entity, the character Cake became a contestant in Battle for BFDI and Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two. Their shared name is referenced in the Cake profile picture foreground's description: "Not the contestant, safe to eat."
